FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your questions, answered
The essentials of Chamber Fellowship: how election works, what it commits you to, and what membership confers.
Can I apply directly for Fellowship of the Chamber?
No. Membership is by invitation or nomination only. Prospective Fellows are identified, proposed and assessed by existing members; there is no open application process.
Does the Chamber regulate the legal profession?
No. The Chamber does not regulate the profession, adjudicate professional conduct, or duplicate the statutory functions of the Ghana Bar Association or the General Legal Council. It is a complementary, intellectual home for the profession.
Who can nominate a candidate for Fellowship?
Existing Fellows may propose candidates. Nominations are considered by the Standing Committee on Membership, which conducts due diligence and makes recommendations to the Council for final approval.
What are the categories of Fellowship?
Founding Fellow, Fellow (FGCL), Senior Fellow (SFGCL), Honorary Fellow, Associate Fellow, and International Fellow. Each reflects a different stage or nature of contribution to law and justice.
Is voluntary service required of Fellows?
Yes. The Chamber treats voluntary public service, including pro bono representation, mentorship and civic engagement, as a defining obligation of membership.
How is a new Fellow inducted?
Admission is marked by formal induction at the Annual Convocation. New Fellows are presented individually, take the Fellow’s Declaration, and are formally invested with the insignia of their category of membership.
